Othello- who is the Moor, Desdemona-wife to Othello and Brabantio daughter, lago -ensign to Othello and husband to Emilia, Cassio-lieutenant to Othello and Brabantio, who a venetian senator and Desdemona’s father as well as brother to Gratiano. Lodovico is a minor character. He is a kinsman to Brabantio and a cousin to Desdemona. Below is a discussion on the significance and dramatic importance of Lodovico as a character in Othello. Lodovico’s main role is found in scene 1 Act IV. In the novel, Lodovico appears for the first time as Cyprus manager from the Duke of Venice in Act IV, scene one. He asks the rhetorical question, whether that was the noble person that every one regarded as sufficient for all. (IV. i. 265-266). World View on Religion - Essay Example Looking back on this I am curious as to why my parents would just stop participating, which in turn meant my siblings and I stopped participating in the church. I feel that this exposure to the church early in my life planted the seeds for the morals and values I can proudly say I have today. However as the expanse of time sense we left the church grew; I slowly started questioning the church and its members more and more. Slowly growing more disenfranchised until my tipping point in 2008 while deployed on board the USS Los Angeles. My early years were shaped by my parents teaching me the difference between right and wrong and how I should face the world little steps at a time. This is where I feel that religion has played a vital role. As a Catholic the concept of good is founded upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and of course the Bible. The Gospel plays an important function in this and how ideas that I correlate with my personal ethics are influenced. In this regard the idea of h eaven has played in my mind ever since. Jesus inspires us to be good to be worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven and most of what I know about this place came from the teachings of the church and mass media’s portrayal of it. In order for any good Catholic to achieve this, one must live virtuous life. I was told to do good to others and in one proverbial Catholic maxim: when someone throws you stones, throw bread in return. Correlatively, ‘Be good to thy neighbors’ immediately comes to mind. These are just some of the things that I have carried with me from childhood and I have always thought that they shape how I live and conduct myself to others. Without knowing what ethics is or understanding what it means including all its various types, this is what I know. In retrospect I realize how basic these things are and how at the same time they are so terribly difficult for us to follow. It baffles me how something so archaic such as the Ten Commandments is relevant then to the same extent it is today without us realizing. What it contains is nothing out of the ordinary and any sensible ethical proposition has contained basically the same core ideas. ‘Honor thy God,’ ‘Do not covet thy neighbor’s wife’ and ‘Honor thy parents’ are just some of the imperative notions that finds its value beyond Catholicism. Religion is a way that helps parents in rearing their children and teaching them to be good people in the future. I think that the bible is one good parenting book to serve as guide in times of uncertainty. It defines what any parent would want their child’s perception to be. Religion, in most cases, determines how we dress, what holidays we celebrate, what books we read and sometimes what language we speak. Though it is a fundamental Constitutional right to choose one’s religion and to change it at our will, it is our parents who initially decide for us and whether or not we adapt the same up to the moment that we die, what they have instilled have become a part of us that we cannot easily erase at our every whim. Compare and Contrast Lamb to the Slaughter and The Speckled Band ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ and ‘The Speckled Band’ are both written is separate eras and cultures, and these differences are reflected in the way the authors use language, structure and moral techniques in their stories. How ever, there are some similarities in these stories as both are of the thriller genre. The story ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ is about a husband and a wife whose relationship comes to a sudden halt. The sweet innocent wife Mary Maloney kills Mr. Maloney due to that he wants to divorce her. Mary becomes very shocked and confused and kills Mr. Mahoney with a Leg of Lamb. Mary produces an act to hide herself from the murder. The police do not realise this and she gets away. The story ‘The Speckled Band’ is not very different to ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ but it has some differences. The story is about a Detective who finds himself and his partner trying to work out a case of murder. Respect In this paper I will argue that respect, when earned, is more stable, more specific, and allows for a better relationship then when respect is simply demanded. Respect has been a major issue throughout time. Towns and countries alike were crushed simply for disrespecting their invaders. Vlad Dracul, a Transylvanian ruler most feared for his barbaric behavior used to cut off the heads of nonconformist villagers and place them on stakes outside his castle. The reason this issue is so important is because if respect is unjustly demanded by everyone, everywhere, all the time, the idea of respect, will be cheapened and true respect will become almost worthless. When respect is earned it is more specific then demanded respect. If you respect someone for a specific talent, but dont actually think they are a good person, you can say that they have earned respect for their talent, but not for their character. An example of this is Bing Crosby. Although he earned respect for being great singer, people did not respect him for beating his kids. A second example of this would be River Phoenix, who earned respect for his outstanding acting abilities, but was disrespected for his drug habit. This point supports my thesis because if respect is demanded it does not specify what is being respected. It is important that respect be specific because, as shown above, a person cannot always be respected universally. It is ineffective to assume that if you demand respect, you will automatically get it. If it is assumed that respect will be given on command, or if respect if forced unto people it makes them reluctant to respect, and stunts the growth of any earned respect.
